Petr Wajsar (*1978) - Petr Wajsar, born in 1978, is a composer, arranger, orchestrator, active guitar and piano player, singer and lyricist. Oldřich Wajsar, his father, is a bass guitarist, songwriter and arranger; his mother, Věra Wajsarová, née Mazánková, is a singer. During their active career time, they formed a well-known band duo called Minimum. They are also known for having cooperated with other bands and artists such as Petr Novák and Abraxas.
Petr Wajsar holds a B. A. in music composition from the Faculty of Musical Arts in Prague, where he studied with Václav Riedlbauch. He also graduated in composition from the Department of Popular and Jazz Music at the State Conservatory in Prague, where he studied with Angelo Michajlov, Milan Svoboda and Michal Pavlíček. Besides that, he studied briefly at the Conservatory of Jaroslav Ježek with Stanislav Jelínek.
His work has been influenced in two major ways: he is deeply rooted in popular genres and has extensively studied symphonic and chamber music. His scores are written for various kinds of personnel: they range from classical and unconventional small ensembles to chamber and full symphony orchestras. In his compositions, he often uses elements of electronic music, either in combination with live instruments or as a sole means. Besides being active in the field of concert music, he works in popular genres and jazz, and composes electronica. He is the leader of the HI-FI band, which performs his own compositions. Petr not only works on his own projects, but also plays keyboard and guitar in other bands. He composes music for advertisements, namely for multimedia ones and video-presentations, creates film and theater music, and arranges other composer’s works for various bands and groups.
The recording of his composition emitgaR for piano and string orchestra represented Czech radio at the International Composer’s Forum in 2002. His works and arrangements are successfully performed by the Epoque string quartet, quartet at many of their concerts home and abroad (Epoque is a group which interprets classical and jazz music). He has written a number of orchestral compositions:Africa for symphony orchestra (2002), a school-leaving composition Beránek měsíc (Moon the Lamb) for female choir, string orchestra, percussion and electronic sounds (1998) and Concertino for percussion and chamber orchestra (2003). name a few. His chamber works include:Tuitytuityutyu Suite for string quartet (2004), Signály (Signals) for chamber choir, string quartet, percussion and electronic sounds (1999) or Citoslovce (Interjections) for mixed choir (2001). Petr has also recorded several songs using his own voice in multiple tracks as an instrument (the ..Offkey Project)./.
Petr has cooperated with many artists, including Michal Pavlíček, with whom he has worked on many of his film music scores – he has orchestrated his music for the BBC series Scarlet Pimpernel (5th and 6th part) and arranged four pieces of the Stromboli band for string orchestra and electronic sounds on the band’s CD called Stromboli in Quartet. He also worked as the choir master and trained soloists of the Excalibur and the Picture of Dorian Gray musical shows. Petr also, among others, cooperated on the Rockestra Project with Friedemann Riehle, or on the In Flagranti Project, where he arranged famous rock compositions for string quartet and electronic sounds. He has also written a number of popular and rock songs.
Petr created, among others, various key-signatures for a series broadcasted by TV Óčko (Fever, Hip-Hop and Don't Stop), a key-signature for the 2003 Famufest (a yearly festival of the Film Academy of Musical Arts-FAMU), and a well-known radio jingle for the Sconto chain furniture stores, and several CD's of music for the Fontana Music Library, of which a lot of material was used in film post-production both home and abroad.
His work on multi-media include the sound design and background music for a didactic CD-ROM published by the Albatros publishers called "Test Yourself". His film music is also a result of multiple cooperation with FAMU's students. He also formed a film creative duo with Dana Balcarova, which produced his movie named Synchronit (2001), a picture set to his music.Nedokončené rádio (The Unfinished Radio), comprised of sounds, his voice in various modifications, key-signatures and background music.
As a singer he can be seen in a theater play by Petr Čtvrtníček "Ivánku, kamaráde, můžeš mluvit?" (“Ivan, old pal, can you talk now?"), accompanied by the Bezdrev chamber orchestra.
